CACHEREL | LES VELOS | 1979
In 1979, All I Have Left Is a Memory of Bicycles / CACHEREL "LES VELOS"
France, 1979. This ad won the GRAND PRIX. I actually don't know anything else about it. But I think that's alright.
The problem
Cacharel is a French fashion brand founded in 1958, known in the 1970s for its Liberty-print shirts and romantic clothing aimed at young people. Bicycle culture was also deeply rooted in France at the time, with a movement called "velorution" (bicycle revolution) taking place during the 1970s.
The idea
The title is "LES VELOS" — meaning "The Bicycles." The agency was IDEODIS, and all that's left on record is the fact that it won the GRAND PRIX.
Afterthought
I think sometimes what makes an ad interesting is that nothing more is said about it. In France in 1979, an ad about bicycles won the top prize. Beyond that, I don't know anything more right now. But there's something about this footage quietly remaining, even without knowing the rest, that moves me. So I'm leaving it here, as a record.
