Just the Story of a Cop Who Lives Nearby / SBC COMMUNICATIONS "NEIGHBOURHOOD, COPS"
An ad from 2001 for a telecom company. This is one entry in a series Goodby Silverstein made for SBC Communications. Just from the title — "neighbourhood" and "cops" — I'm curious what kind of story this could possibly be.
The problem
SBC was a telecom company under Pacific Bell that sold high-speed internet (DSL) service. Back in 2001, they were locked in fierce competition with cable providers, pouring billions of dollars into "Project Pronto," a nationwide push to wire up residential neighborhoods with DSL equipment. This particular piece won Gold in the "High Speed Internet Access" category at Cannes.
What happened
It won Gold.
Afterthought
Goodby Silverstein is a legendary agency known for "Got Milk?", and back in 2001 their relationship with SBC was apparently coming to an end. I'd love to know more about the context this piece was made in. Sorry for having so little information on this one. But given that it won an award, there must have been something special about it. If anyone knows more, I'd love to hear it.
