BCP | SOS POS | 2026

What got stolen was the phone, but what got protected was the bank account / BCP "SOS POS"

In Peru, more than 4,000 phones are stolen every single day, and nearly a third of them belonged to BCP customers. That's the reason the bank decided to act, and honestly, that's reason enough.

The problem

When your phone gets stolen, it only takes a few minutes before your banking app, and the account behind it, becomes the next target. Thieves don't just take your device, they take away your ability to call for help too.

The insight

Every bank has an emergency hotline. But there was a simple contradiction nobody had really addressed: how is the victim supposed to call that number when the phone itself is gone? The answer was to stop relying on the phone at all.

The idea

BCP turned the payment terminals (POS) already sitting in local shops into emergency account-freezing points. No phone, no app, no call needed, just an ID number and a PIN typed in on the spot. The system was rolled out to more than 17,500 affiliated stores nationwide, putting help within about two minutes' reach for most people.

What happened

Since launching in 11/2025, the system has carried out more than 14,000 emergency account blocks, protecting over 74 million soles in customer funds. At Cannes Lions 2026, it won seven Lions in total, including the Grand Prix in Creative Data, the first Grand Prix ever won by a Peruvian bank.

Afterthought

They didn't make an ad, they made a service. That's really the whole story. Turning the checkout counter at a corner grocery store into a lifeline isn't something most people would ever think of. I love how boldly they chose to actually use the data instead of just looking at it.
