BLITZ-WEINHARD | ELK CREEK CUT OFF | 1980

The Story of a Local Beer That Had Been Around for 60 Years—and Won Gold / BLITZ-WEINHARD "ELK CREEK CUT OFF"

A piece made by Ogilvy & Mather in 1980. I still haven't been able to track down the full content, but just the title alone is enough to pull you in.

The problem

Blitz-Weinhard was one of those local beers that had been losing ground to national brands. It had long put down roots in its home region as a beer from Oregon, but in 1979 it ended up becoming part of the Pabst Brewing Company.

What happened

There's a record that it won GOLD in 1980. It was produced by OGILVY & MATHER.

Afterthought

Honestly, I still can't properly tell you about the actual footage. The title alone caught my attention and I searched everywhere, but I never found an article explaining this piece in detail. Still, the fact that it won gold in 1980 remains on record, and I think the fact that this alone makes you want to see it is a sign of a good ad.
