GOBIERNO DE LA CIUDAD | HINDU | 2009
The details stay a mystery, only the gold medal shines / GOBIERNO DE LA CIUDAD "HINDU"
In 2009, the city government of Buenos Aires wanted to say something, and teamed up with TBWA Buenos Aires to put this campaign out into the world. It's called "HINDU," and it won gold. But beyond that, I honestly don't know much else.
The problem
Tracing the ad's credits, you find the client was the Buenos Aires city government, and the purpose was a promotional campaign for BAFICI (the Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival). BAFICI first took place in April (month 4) of 1999 and has been run by the city's cultural department ever since. "HINDU" was one of three films in the same campaign, alongside "Orientales" and "Playa."
The insight
The campaign's goal was to bring an independent film festival to a wider general audience, not just film buffs. It was an attempt to open up BAFICI, which had been aimed at a niche crowd, with a message for the mainstream.
The idea
The director was La Doble Nelson, production was by Toma 78 in Barcelona, Spain, and the agency was Savaglio\TBWA in Buenos Aires. In the Cannes awards record, the product category is listed as "Bafici Indie Films Festival." That said, I couldn't confirm the specifics of how the word "Hindu" was actually used within the film.
What happened
All that remains is the record of a gold win. At this point, there's no way to find out which award show it won at or what exactly moved the judges.
Afterthought
Sorry for the thin information this time. But I try to say "I don't know" when I don't know. If anyone out there knows more about this campaign, I'd love to hear it. As an archive, Koukoku-kun figures it's worth keeping a record, even just this much.
