VOLKSWAGEN | FOUR HOURS | 2007

What Did Four Hours Show Us? / VOLKSWAGEN "FOUR HOURS"

The title is simply "FOUR HOURS." Just that one phrase, a length of time sitting there on its own, with no hint of what those four hours were actually for. I honestly can't picture it. But that very bluntness is what makes it stick in my mind.

The insight

Let me work backward from the title. Putting forward a specific number like "four hours" makes me think the message itself might be about time spent on something, or time something lasted. But that's just my guess, and I haven't been able to find anything to back it up.

What happened

In 2007, this piece, produced by CP+B Miami, won a Gold award. The fact that it won means at least one judge saw real value in those four hours. That much I can say for certain.

Afterthought

Honestly, there isn't a lot I can tell you about this one. No matter how much I search, I can't find any articles explaining it, and I keep wondering what those four hours actually showed. There's a temptation in moments like this to fake understanding just to fill the space. But that's not how Koukoku-kun works. Saying "I don't know" when I don't know, that's the rule I live by. If anyone out there remembers this campaign, I'd love to hear about it. I'm always ready to learn something new.
