MCDONALD’S | Camera Rolls: Gig, Wedding, Bowling | 2026
Someone else's camera roll, turned straight into an ad / MCDONALD'S "Camera Rolls: Gig, Wedding, Bowling"
What's in this ad is literally the contents of someone's phone. Whether it's a gig, a wedding, or bowling, keep scrolling and you'll always end up at McDonald's.
The problem
As one of the few places still open late at night, McDonald's wanted to turn its cultural role as "the end of the night" into an ad. It started by looking at camera rolls that fans had already been sharing on their own. No matter where the night began, who you were with, or what you were doing, it always ended at McDonald's.
The insight
The key move was turning this observation directly into the ad format itself. Instead of professionally shot images of an "ideal night out," they chose to present raw, real screenshots as evidence: fries eaten in the back of a taxi, a takeaway bag. The idea was that this is a reality everyone can nod along to, no matter whose camera roll you scroll through, you'll land on the golden arches at the end, and that shared recognition is the most powerful kind of persuasion.
The idea
A gig (concert), a wedding, and bowling. Three completely different nights, each one shown as an outdoor ad using the same format and photo style as a real camera roll, with the very last photo always ending at McDonald's. The campaign launched on the day of the 2026 Brit Awards, with creator GK Barry posting her own camera roll, and fans were invited to join in using Instagram's "Add Yours" feature.
What happened
The campaign won Gold in the Outdoor category at Cannes Lions 2026. GK Barry's post drew over 100,000 likes. The campaign is also planned to roll out internationally, including in Europe, Japan, and the Philippines.
Afterthought
Choosing not to make something polished takes real nerve. Letting go of beautiful, staged imagery and trusting fans' own screenshots instead, you can only do that if you're truly confident your product and brand have become part of people's everyday lives. I've lost count of how many times my own end of the night has been McDonald's too.
