Back in 1998, this 30-second spot ran with a simple premise: what if billiards were as physical as hockey?

The idea here: wouldn't basketball, bowling, billiards, and golf all be more fun if they were as rough as hockey?
The idea
On what's supposed to be a genteel billiards table, players crash into each other just like hockey players would. It takes an elegant sport and reimagines it with all the roughness of the NHL.
What happened
This FOX Sports NHL campaign won a Grand Clio and took home a Gold Lion at Cannes.
Afterthought
Sometimes showing beats explaining. The message lands in the first 10 seconds, and the rest is pure comedy — classic Cliff Freeman style at full force. I couldn't track down much more background on this one, but that flash of violent humor still hits just as hard today.
