GODADDY | Act Like You Know | 2025
The Moment an Actor Stopped Acting and Became a Real Entrepreneur / GoDaddy "Act Like You Know"
For its Super Bowl comeback after eight years away, GoDaddy didn't go for shock value or crude jokes. Instead, it turned the quiet anxiety of "faking it till you make it" into something genuinely funny.
The problem
From 2005 to 2017, GoDaddy was a Super Bowl regular known for its provocative commercials. For its 2025 return, the brand wanted to introduce its new AI tool, Airo. The challenge was figuring out how to ease the anxiety felt by small business owners who've never built a website or designed a logo, yet are stepping into entrepreneurship with zero expertise.
The insight
"Acting like you know what you're doing when you don't" is an actor's job description—and it's also daily life for an entrepreneur. As chief judge Wendy Walker put it, "Most small business owners need to present themselves as bigger than they actually are." That overlap is what turned a B2B story into a human one.
The idea
The campaign cast Walton Goggins and had him actually launch his own eyewear brand, built entirely with Airo, in documentary style. In the 60-second spot, Goggins plays a detective, an F1 racer, and an astronaut, before delivering the line: "But the hardest role I've ever played is a small business owner. I don't know anything. But Airo does." The website, the logo, the social media—all of it was made with Airo, and the glasses were actually sold.
What happened
After the Super Bowl, traffic to Airo's landing page rose 87%. The campaign won the Grand Prix in the Creative B2B category at Cannes Lions 2025.
Afterthought
An actor stops acting to become a real entrepreneur—and then plays that role again inside the ad itself. That nested structure is irresistible. The campaign gently affirms, with humor, that everyone needs to fake it sometimes. It's wonderful that after eight years away, GoDaddy's comeback arrived with this kind of quiet honesty.
