Every Time You Fail, You Get Closer to the Future / HONDA "Become Someone Who Tries"
This ad just seemed to appear out of nowhere. It runs 120 seconds, calmly showing people working at Honda's research facility, nothing more. And yet somehow it has this strange power to make you think, "I want to work here."
The insight
Judging from the message "Become Someone Who Tries," this was clearly made for recruiting new graduates. But it's not about doing something wild or reckless. What comes through, loud and clear, is a genuine, forward-looking desire: we want people who keep challenging themselves with new things.
The idea
The ad puts the engineers' everyday life into words as it shows them on screen: "Trying again and again, something nagging at your mind, sometimes just staring off into space..." And in the end, you try again. But surely, every time you fail, you get closer to the future. The sheer power of that line.
Afterthought
I'm sure the reality is more complicated in all sorts of ways, but honestly, I found myself thinking, what a great place to work! This one film genuinely made me want to work at Honda myself. For a recruitment ad to deliver such a pure, concentrated feeling like this—it's almost unfairly impressive.
