It Somehow Turned Into a Pretty Cool Youth Movie / Microsoft Surface "Being Absorbed Is Invincible"
In spring 2017, a web movie was released for incoming university students. Under the main line "Being Absorbed Is Invincible," it shows students chasing their dreams while working part-time jobs, students drawing on rooftops, and students running around with friends late at night.
The insight
The narration taps into young people's desire for recognition, and a crossover technique mixing narration with voiceover captures their shifting emotions. That said, there's a nagging sense that this could work just as well without Surface.
The idea
With a cinematic visual tone and emotional music by yahyel, the video turns out addictive enough that you want to watch it again and again.
Afterthought
When they go as far as saying "there's no future except through an endless string of things you can lose yourself in," it's a bit much, honestly. The young people who show up are pretty upbeat and stylish even by today's standards, so I wonder whether this really lands with the average young person. I can't really say. But maybe aiming for that "somehow nice vibe" feeling is its own kind of strategy.
