SPECSAVERS | The Relationship Aid | 2026

The true identity of the "couples' intimacy device" was... a hearing aid / SPECSAVERS "THE RELATIONSHIP AID"

After teasing a "couples' intimacy device" in a sultry tone straight out of an adult mail-order ad, what shows up in the end is a hearing aid. It's an almost unfairly beautiful twist.

The problem

In the UK, it's not just 180,000 but 18 million people who struggle with their hearing, yet the wait to get checked can run as long as 10 years. Behind this lies a deep-rooted stigma around hearing aids. Specsavers is an agency that has spent the past several years running campaigns that tackle hearing problems head-on.

The insight

Poor hearing tends to get treated as "the individual's problem," but really it's the couple as a pair who lose out when conversations stop connecting. According to research in the UK, about 7 in 10 people said feeling properly listened to was the most important thing for staying connected with their partner. The heart of this campaign is turning an individual medical issue into a shared relationship issue.

The idea

Dating and relationship influencer Paul Brunson teased on social media about a mysterious "AI-powered, portable device that changes couples' intimacy," sparking wild, almost scandal-level speculation. Two days later, he revealed what it actually was — Specsavers' Advance 65 hearing aid. That's the punchline. The film itself borrows the sensual lighting and macro photography style of adult mail-order ads, turning a medical device into something people actually want.

What happened

Brunson's post was viewed 1.2 million times, and the main film was watched 1.56 million times on YouTube, with a reported 97% positive response. At Cannes Lions 2026, it won Gold in the PR Healthcare category and Silver in Creative Content & Production.

Afterthought

What feels almost unfair is the structure — making you laugh first, then landing the blow. It's not just that you can't get mad about being "spoiled" — the impressive part is that once you know the punchline, you actually want to watch it again. Making people want a hearing aid through an ad is a pretty serious feat.
