They locked office workers in a glass box / Apple TV+ "Severance Grand Central Activation"
In January 2025, a glass box appeared at Grand Central Terminal. Inside were the cast of Severance. Right in the middle of rush-hour commuting, the show's office had suddenly materialized in real life.
The problem
Severance is a show about a surgery that splits your work self from your personal self. Season 2 drove a big jump in new subscribers and became a major talking point, and this was the first time Apple TV+ had ever tried a live pop-up stunt like this.
The insight
In the show, workers are watched constantly and have no privacy at all. Put actors inside a glass box, and that same unsettling feeling comes through instantly. Grand Central, where commuters switch between work mode and life mode every day, was almost too perfect a stage for it.
The idea
They brought in real props straight from the show's set. The stunt ran for 18 hours over two days. At the end of the first day, the cast appeared without warning and kept working for three hours straight, with no dialogue and no explanation. It was just a 'normal office' sitting inside glass — a surreal sight. The fact that nothing happened was exactly what made it so eerie.
What happened
The stunt went viral, both on social media and off it. What mattered most was that people took it not as marketing, but as an extension of the show itself.
Afterthought
It stopped commuters in their tracks, took over the internet, and brought the world of the show directly into reality. To the "innies" quietly working away behind that glass — well done.
