NOVARTIS | RELAX YOUR TIGHT END | 2026

Please, Let Your Tight End Relax / Novartis "RELAX YOUR TIGHT END"

Who knew the football position "tight end" could be turned into a health awareness message? That tightness in your chest might actually be your heart.

The problem

The early symptoms of heart disease are often described with the vague phrase "tightness in the chest," which many people simply overlook. Novartis, a pharmaceutical company with drugs for heart conditions, faced the challenge of spreading awareness about this symptom.

The insight

The team noticed that "tight end," the name of a football position, naturally evokes the image of a "tight chest" — a perfect wordplay. It was a way to deliver a stiff medical topic to sports fans with humor.

The idea

They cast NFL players and created a comedic commercial built around the phrase "relax your tight end," using it to suggest that chest tightness might be a sign of heart trouble. The ad walks right up to the edge of an innuendo for laughs, then pivots at the end to properly explain the symptom.

What happened

Produced by Fallon Minneapolis, the campaign won the Grand Prix in the Pharma category at Cannes Lions 2026.

Afterthought

I love how this ad uses wordplay that skirts right along the edge of innuendo to tackle head-on a topic everyone would rather avoid. It's not just a joke — real information about recognizing a symptom rides along with the laugh. It's a model example of using humor to actually move people.
