26,000 Memories Became a Song, With YOASOBI / PlayStation "Project: MEMORY CARD"

For PlayStation's 30th anniversary, the star wasn't the brand—it was players' memories. 26,000 submissions became a single song, thanks to YOASOBI.

The problem

In December 2024 (12/2024), as the PS1 marked its 30th anniversary, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced a 30th anniversary project with YOASOBI. They collected stories under the hashtag #MemoryOfPlay about "the game you'd want to erase your memory of and play again," with submissions open until the end of January 2025.

The insight

What they wanted to show wasn't the company's history, but each player's own memories. Just as memory cards once protected save data, this time everyone's memories would be saved into a single song—that swap became the whole concept.

The idea

YOASOBI turned the 26,000 submissions into a song called "PLAYERS." In the 30th anniversary commercial, Nanase Nishino, Usada Pekora, and Kiyo appear as voice actors, telling a story of being led by a mysterious memory card on a journey into the world of games. The video features 30 works by 30 creators, packed with tributes to both new and old games.

What happened

"PLAYERS" was released for streaming on March 21, 2025, with the TV commercial starting to air the same day. The full 123-second version premiered on PlayStation Japan's YouTube channel on March 31.

Afterthought

The idea itself is powerful: instead of talking about their own achievements, they gathered fans' memories into a single song. On top of that, with YOASOBI and these three cast members on board, the community's passion turned straight into something you can watch. The metaphor of saving memories is just beautiful.
