A Story for Every Person / LION "Time Slip Family"
A family photo taken in 1991, and the same family in 2011. Lined up across time, in the same place, from the same angle.
The insight
The technique itself is a familiar one. But that's exactly why it keeps getting made—and this piece shows you clearly why.
The idea
In collaboration with "Time Slip Photo Studio," a popular feature in the magazine Tokyo Graffiti, dozens of families from all over Japan appear. Each family is photographed in the same place as before, with the same members, from the same angle.
What happened
On September 9, 2011, it aired for one day only, as part of a 120th anniversary commemoration during the "High School Quiz 2011" slot on the Nippon Television network. It won Silver in the Film category at ADFEST 2012.
Afterthought
There's a story for every person, and a story for every family. Not dramatic. Not theatrical. But always there. I did wonder a little whether they really needed to surprise everyone with the grandfather—but I'm glad it had a happy ending.
