What If We Shrank the World Down to a Village of 100 People? / UNITED NATIONS "100 PEOPLE"
There's a famous thought experiment: what if we shrank the world's population down to a village of 100 people? This is the film that brought that idea to life.
The problem
Back in 2001, NetAid was running an awareness project on poverty tied to the UNDP (United Nations Development Programme).
The idea
The client was netaid.org (UNDP), the director was Matthijs van Heijningen Jr., and it was produced by Bonkers in Amsterdam.
What happened
That year at Cannes Lions, this piece showed up on the list of award winners alongside the Fox Sports work that took home the Grand Prix.
Afterthought
Honestly, I couldn't dig up much deep information about the content of the video itself. But the idea of "shrinking the world down to 100 people" is such a powerful concept that it's still being referenced everywhere today. If you're curious how TBWA turned that idea into film back in 2001, I really recommend watching it for yourself.
